Russ Hinder currently plays for the West Sydney Razorbacks in the Australian National Basketball League. Oscar Orange was bouncing all over the place when told he could interview Russ. Here’s what they talked about….
Oscar Orange:
Hi Russ, it’s great to meet you, I’m pretty well known as a basketball player myself. Who has been the toughest opponent?
Russ Hinder:
Simon Dwight – guarding him everyday in practice
Oscar Orange:
I can understand that, he’s very quick isn’t he. Can you tell me what your worst every injury has been?
Russ Hinder:
A fractured spine.
Oscar Orange:
Gosh that sounds amazing! What do you think has been your biggest achievement in sport so far?
Russ Hinder:
Playing with the Razorbacks at the highest level in Australia!
Oscar Orange:
That is definitely pretty cool – do you have room for one more player –I was pretty popular when I was helping out at a couple of your home games this year by playing at half-time. Have you ever had a losing streak?
Russ Hinder:
Yes, seven games in college
Oscar Orange:
Seven games isn’t too bad. How do you overcome these times?
Russ Hinder:
Try and stay positive and remember why I love this game
Oscar Orange:
Staying healthy is pretty important isn’t it. What are your favourite fruits?
Russ Hinder:
Mangoes, Nectarines and Granny Smith apples among other fruits.
Oscar Orange:
You forgot to say oranges! So what are your favourite vegetables?
Russ Hinder:
Potatoes, corn and peas
Oscar Orange:
What is your favourite food in general?
Russ Hinder:
Barbeques and meat pies
Oscar Orange:
All this talk about food is making me hungry. If you hadn’t turned out to be such a legend basketball player, what do you think you would have chosen to do as a career?
Russ Hinder:
A PE teacher
Oscar Orange:
Wow, that means you could have actually taught some us kids to be as good a player as you. What do you like to do in your spare time?
Russ Hinder:
Play golf and Playstation 2
Oscar Orange:
Who is your hero?
Russ Hinder:
World Trade Centre heroes (Emergency Services)
Oscar Orange:
They were definitely very heroic. Do you have any nicknames?
Russ Hinder:
Rusty & RJ
Oscar Orange:
Rusty’s a very cool nickname. What do you think is the best thing about playing sport?
Russ Hinder:
The work hours
Oscar Orange:
That’s a great reason – where do I sign up? What is your favourite motto?
Russ Hinder:
The harder you work, the luckier you get.
Oscar Orange:
You’re absolutely right. Russ thank you very much, it’s been very cool. Best of luck next season and I hope the Razorbacks go on to win the Championship next year! |
