Oscar Orange:
Hi Petrina, thanks for taking time out of your very busy training and school schedule to speak to us today. High jumping seems impossibly hard - who has been your toughest opponent?
Petrina Price:
Hi Oscar, I would definitely say that the high jump bar is my toughest opponent, as it always wins!!
Oscar Orange:
Gosh that’s got to be challenging, can you please tell us about your worst every injury?
Petrina Price:
I broke my collarbone while doing high jump. I was only 12 years old and I fell through a large gap in the mats and landed awkwardly...Ouch!
Oscar Orange:
Its amazing that you still wanted to keep jumping after that. OK so you got back up and kept jumping. Well done. So after that what do you think has been your biggest achievements in sport?
Petrina Price:
Well I can think of at least four: Australian u/18 record (1.90mt), 2nd in the U/18 World Youth Championships (Hungary), 3rd in the u/20 World Junior Championships (Jamaica) and 6th in the Commonwealth Games (Manchester).
Oscar Orange:
Wow they are amazing achievement! You’ve achieved so much - have you ever had a losing streak?
Petrina Price:
It’s not a losing streak, to me they are just disappointing performances.
Oscar Orange:
That’s a great outlook to have. So how do you overcome these disappointing performances?
Petrina Price:
It motivates me to improve on my last performance and to train harder and to achieve my desired goal.
Oscar Orange:
What a healthy attitude. I wonder, do you have as healthy a diet as well? Can you please tell me which are your favourite fruits?
Petrina Price:
Rockmelon, apples, cherries and dried fruits and because Oscar, you are interviewing me I will say oranges…
Oscar Orange:
Just as well because as you know oranges give you plenty of vitamin C. So what are your favourite vegetables?
Petrina Price:
Spinach, mushrooms, potatoes, peas and onions.
Oscar Orange:
You’re making me hungry! What is your favourite food in general?
Petrina Price:
Fruit salad and salad rolls. Yum!!! Also low-fat blueberry muffins and ‘Cookies and Cream’ ice cream as well as Jelly Belly beans and natural lollies.
Oscar Orange:
It’s lucky you eat so healthily and get stacks of exercise otherwise you wouldn’t be able to eat all the sweets. Petrina, can you tell me what you would do if you didn’t turn out to be such an awesome athlete?
Petrina Price:
I would still have been suffering severe Asthma without my sporting career.
Oscar Orange:
Training six days a week and still going to school I can’t imaging you have much spare time. What do you like to do when you’re not training?
Petrina Price:
I hang out with my friends, I also spend time at the beach and rollerblading.
Oscar Orange:
If I’d know you loved to rollerblade I could have brought Tamara Tomato along as she is a legendary rollerblader. Most athletes have heroes – who is yours?
Petrina Price:
Superman, I’m still dreaming that one day he will take me to be his supergirl...
Oscar Orange:
Well you can certainly fly like Superman – but how about Captain Capsicum, he’s our own super hero! OK, I’d better get back to the serious interview otherwise they might not let me interview anyone else! Petrina, do you have any nicknames?
Petrina Price:
Jumper from Down Under, Pet, Pricey and also Petty.
Oscar Orange:
Gosh you have stacks of nicknames to choose from. You are such a great athlete that I would love to know what you think is the best thing about playing sport?
Petrina Price:
It keeps you fit and healthy and it’s a challenge. It’s also a great opportunity to represent Australia, our country.
Oscar Orange:
Wow they are great reasons to get into sport aren’t they. So what is your favourite motto?
Petrina Price:
‘Never give up’ and also ‘You dream, You believe, You create and you SUCCEED’.
Oscar Orange:
They are fantastic motto’s to finish up with. You have certainly inspired me to get out there! Petrina, thanks for being such a cool sport and for answering all my questions. Best of luck jumping over the bar!! |
