Summa Strawberry was very excited when she was told she was on an assignment to intervierw Jane as she is such a netball fan. This is what they talked about when they caught up...
Summa Strawberry:
Hi Jane, it’s just fantastic to meet you. Thank you for taking the time to speak to me today. I was wondering why you think organised sport or exercise in general is so important?
Jane Altschwager:
Hi Summa, it’s great to meet you too! I find organised sport a great way to relax and take your mind off other things in your life. You tend to make new friends and have a lot of fun.
Summa Strawberry:
Having fun is definitely important isn’t it! You’ve done so well in netball, can you tell me what you think has been your biggest achievement in sport?
Jane Altschwager:
Making the Australian Team in March 2001 at 20 years of age.
Summa Strawberry:
That’s just incredible. I can’t imagine what it would be like to play for Australia. Who has been your toughest opponent?
Jane Altschwager:
Liz Tavener from the Melbourne Phoenix.
Summa Strawberry:
I bet there is a fair amount of rivalry between teams. What about your worst every injury?
Jane Altschwager:
Well I rolled my ankle and did ligament damage on my first Australian 21 and under tour at our first practice match!
Summa Strawberry:
Wow, talk about bad luck! So have you ever had a losing streak?
Jane Altschwager:
No.
Summa Strawberry:
That’s pretty lucky – you must work hard! What do you believe makes up a healthy balanced diet?
Jane Altschwager:
Making sure you eat the right foods that you can get the most out of but making sure you allow for variety.
Summa Strawberry:
That’s great advice. So can I ask which are your favourite fruits?
Jane Altschwager:
Bananas, apples and nectarines. Oh and apricots!
Summa Strawberry:
Yum! So what are your favourite vegetables?
Jane Altschwager:
Potato, beans, peas and broccoli.
Summa Strawberry:
It sure sounds as though you love your fresh fruit and vegies, so do you have a favourite recipe?
Jane Altschwager:
Meat and three veg!!
Summa Strawberry:
Eating lots of vegies would give you lots of energy! What is your favourite food in general?
Jane Altschwager:
Chocolate.
Summa Strawberry:
Gosh, all this talk is making me very hungry. If you hadn’t turned out to be such an amazing netballer, what do you think you would have chosen to do as a career?
Jane Altschwager:
Maybe a police officer.
Summa Strawberry:
That sounds pretty interesting. I am sure you compete, train and exercise quite a bit, but can you tell us what you like to do in your spare time?
Jane Altschwager:
Catch up with friends, read the newspaper, watch movies, listen to music and play more sport.
Summa Strawberry:
Wow, more sport! Why are athletes such great role models?
Jane Altschwager:
The majority of them always appear to be having fun and enjoying life – everyone wants to enjoy life.
Summa Strawberry:
Who is your hero?
Jane Altschwager:
My hero is Pete Gray who was a one armed Babe Ruth Baseballer.
Summa Strawberry:
He sounds amazing. Do you have any nicknames?
Jane Altschwager:
Jano.
Summa Strawberry:
OK Jano, what do you think is the best thing about playing sport?
Jane Altschwager:
Meeting people and having fun.
Summa Strawberry: They sound like the best reasons in the world. What is your favourite motto?
Jane Altschwager:
Dominators don’t beat you. They make you beat you.
Summa Strawberry:
I’ll try and remember that! Jane, thanks so much for your time and best of luck with netball and I hope to see the Sydney Swifts win another premiership this year and of course for Australia to continue their domination! |
