Apples Ain't Apples Presentations: Terms 1 and 2, 2008

Newcastle Market's Fresh Approach Team have been kept busy during terms 1 and 2, visiting over 40 schools.

Team members conducted an educational presentation that included the health benefits of eating fresh fruit and vegetables and explained the journey the produce takes from paddock to plate. The fresh apple sampling was a winner with students taste-testing three different varieties of apple, which were generously donated by T.Garrett and Son, a wholesaler within the Newcastle Markets.

Other program sponsors Australian Bananas, National Foods and Chep make these school visits possible.

The presentation is offered to all Hunter and Newcastle Primary Schools and it has proven very popular since its launch in November 2007, with positive feedback received from teachers.

Here's what some teacher evaluations had to say:

Metford Primary School'This was a fantastic supplement to our healthy living unit', Metford Primary School.

Tanilba Bay Primary School 'Well presented, informative and entertaining', Tanilba Bay Primary School.

Argenton Primary School'The children enjoyed the fun presentation, especially the taste-testing and identifying the fruit. I think it will motivate them to eat more fresh food', Argenton Primary School.

This year the annual Tocal Field Days celebrated its 25th Anniversary. As part of the celebrations Tocal hosted a ‘science in the bush’ program for primary school aged children and Newcastle Market was invited to conduct our Fresh Approach Presentation on Friday 2nd May 2008.
